Granddad

Granddad

Today will be a different type of post from me…more personal and not wholly about art. This week my Granddad, Derek Hillman, passed away. He is the first family member that I have known to die and I suppose that’s pretty lucky when you’re 23. It is a weird feeling to have someone be there …

Is that a…Wizard Bird?

Is that a…Wizard Bird?

Is that a...WIzard Bird?

This magical little bird appeared to me in doodle form on a slow day at work. He has since been sketched (as you can see) and is currently being brought to life on my computer screen. I am thinking of some exciting stories about him, although I’m yet to give him a name, poor bird. He looks happy enough at the moment.

That’s it from me tonight, short and sweet. I’ve been ill with a bad cold so forgive me AND there will be more exciting posts soon!

Sketches Galore!

Sketches Galore!

Howdy Folks, I’ve been sketching away over the last couple of days, just getting a few ideas together for some more digital wildlife paintings. Generally, this is how I start an artwork, I’ll create an initial sketch, refine the drawing then scan it in for painting. Although, I do love drawings as stand alone artwork …

Freddy Fox

Freddy Fox

Hello All! As promised earlier here is a new painting, and a new member of my character creations, Freddy Fox! and here are a couple of pictures of it in progress: It started out as a simple sketch in a fresh new sketchbook that I treated myself to. Well, I say treated it was quite …

Deer – Finished

Deer – Finished

Deer - Finished

After doing about 75 different versions of this..well more like five but you’ve got to exaggerate sometimes don’t you? This is going to be a really short blog as my computer seems to be typing extremely slowly. Argh! I have got a little treat for you as well later I will upload a completely new painting. Anyway before my computer drives me insane…goodbye

Deer in Progress..

Deer in Progress..

I have created two versions of my deer painting, the sepia version and the colour version. They aren’t completed yet I still need to add some detail but I thought I’d share the two versions I have done. Maybe you could tell me which on you prefer. Here they are:   I’m not really too …

Oh DEER!

Oh DEER!

SNOOOOW! – OK so maybe that was a bit of a predictable way to start a blog today but, as my regular readers will know I’m slightly obsessed with commenting on the weather (how typically British I hear you say.) I cannot stop looking at it through my (very dirty – I’ve just noticed that …

The Barn Owl – Finished Painting

The Barn Owl – Finished Painting

The Barn Owl - Finished Painting

This is the finished version of ‘The Barn Owl’ I posted the partly completed version the other day! I hope you like it. Next I think I will try to incorporate more background details as well…just to keep challenging myself. This was completed using Photoshop CS6 and Wacom tablet after being initially drawn tradtionally with a good old fashioned 2B pencil and that version can also be found in my gallery!

Barn Owl (New Painting - in Progress)

Following my recent trend of digitalising (probs not a word) some of my old drawings..here is the Barn Owl. He isn’t finished at the moment but thought you might be interested in how it was coming along. I am yet to do some major detail work on the wings, it should be fun…yet challenging. You’d think as an artist I would be patient…no. I am not, it’s why digital work seems to be working for me there is no waiting for layers to dry…but I don’t think staring at screens is particularly good for your eyesight. I love drawing and WILL always start my art with drawing but hand with a good old fashioned pencil first.

Well, I’ve rambled on long enough I hope you like it and I’ll post the finished version ASAP.
